This past weekend, Rebecca, Bobbi, and I had the pleasure of attending Soul Collage with some of our friends from Rebecca Bitzer and Associates. The workshop coordinator told us at the beginning of the event that this was about us and not to worry about remembering other people’s names or asking them questions, rather we should be communicating with ourselves. We started the event by finding a picture from a magazine that best represents who we are. We went around the circle saying “I am one who….”, finishing the sentence with something related to ourselves and the picture. This transitioned us into the main focus of soul collage, again using these magazine pictures to create “soul cards” that related to our lives.
My first one was about what I enjoy most in life, summer and taking vacations, exercising and being outside, and being home near the Jersey shore.

My second soul card represented my excitement and uncertainty for the future, a picture of someone looking ahead.

For those of you who attended what did you think?
Thanks Kait for your post. It was a wonderful afternoon that we spent with Lynn Zwerling. It was surprising to me how relaxing and soothing it was to simply cut and paste! The three hours flew by and I left feeling refreshed. Soul Collage is truly an excellent form of self-expression, and one that most of us have never had the opportunity to try. Feel free to email Lynn yourself if you are interested in attending a Soul Collage Workshop. lynnz@comcast.net
Wow that sounds like a very inspirational time! Also very funky art! Thanks for sharing.
Nice post Kait. I did enjoy the soul collage, both personally and professionally. It was quite enjoyable and relaxing for me to find visually appealing photos and cut and paste them in a way to represent who I am and what I want for myself. Being a working mom, it is often a challenge for me to make time for simply me. This felt like something that I did for me, I found photos that I liked, that spoke to me and I cut and pasted and put them together on cards to remind me of who I am and what I like and what I want. When I got home from the meeting, I was energized and started going through my magazines and made a few more cards and fine-tuned the ones that I made with the group. I am going to put the cards up throughout my house and/or office and maybe even put them up (with others) on a wall in my office. They are simply fun and inspiring. I have gotten feedback that a few participants are interested in doing this again, so I am hoping to provide more creative arts events for us to share in the near future.
Our Soul Collage afternoon was a week ago today. Every day since, I have enjoyed taking a few minutes to savor the time we spent together, the inspiration and creative energy that flowed so freely. Lynn is a generously enthusiast and positive Soul Collage facilitator. I just love thinking about it! I can not quite put my finger on the specialness, some combination of being nurtured and set free at the same time. I think of being nurtured as being in a nest, and being set free as flying. I am somewhere in between right now,
perhaps that is why it felt so lovely to me.
Sharing a table with women in the midst of creativity was an amazing experience for me, so different from being creative alone. Each woman added her own special grace. Creating alongside of Rebecca, Bobbi and Kait, well, if you know any of them, multiply their delightful-caring-calmness times three and you will understand how I am still basking a week later.
Thank you all, I look forward to a future creative adventure! If you are looking for any volunteers to transform a wall into a collage vision, please count me in!
p.s. Kait, thanks for putting you collages here for all to enjoy, there were so many that day, I would like to see them all again, yours are wonderful!
Lynn is a SoulCollage® Facilitator and we at SoulCollage, Inc are excited to see the results of her sharing. Thanks for posting this, Kait…The excitement is contagious isn’t it? I hope you’ll explore this trademarked process even more. The more cards you do the deeper you feel connected to yourself and to others.
