Autobiography_CombinedI wrote this autobiography when I was 11 years old for a school assignment.

At 11 years old, my plans to be a dietitian were in place.  Many years later, I have decided that a dietitian is too limiting for me, but the concept of a nutritionist is a good fit.  I like to think about nutrition in the broadest sense of NUTRITIOUS, basically nourishing the mind, body and soul.  This fits for me, both personally and professionally.

I believe my life struggle has been to quit “doing too much” in terms of my drive to be productive and to push myself out of my comfort zone.

I think that my autobiography illustrates this quite well, who else at age 11 decides to be a dietitian even though she loves pizza and ice cream and detests vegetables?  I guess I have always enjoyed a challenge.

My on-going challenge is how to balance my passion for life, family, adventure, and hard work with fun, play and taking good care of my mind, body and soul.  I intend to blog my journey to stay focused on exquisite self-care and inspire others to begin and continue their own personal journey on the path to wellness.

In the past, I have often had too much on my plate. This is one of my best personality traits; however, at times, my enormous to-do list tends to spin out of control.  I have learned recently, to limit and focus my goals for the day on a balanced plate of self-care in terms of mind, body and spirit and this seems to work well for me.

I strive to balance a full-plate, balanced in terms of healthy foods and activities.  Today, there is a blizzard outside, so I plan to stay warm, contact my family to make sure everyone is safe, eat homemade turkey potpie for lunch, marinate flank steak for dinner, and go for a nice walk outside with my husband, my camera, and Labrador retrievers. Life works better for me at a slower, more mindful, deliberate pace.

Please share your thoughts, stories and goals with me on your journey to a healthier, happier you.

WOW! What insight you had even at age 11!

A healthy balance of mind, body and soul is a tricky yet rewarding recipe to create. Your day during the blizzard demonstrates perfectly how you successfully mix these ingredients into a productive and rewarding entree!

Thanks for the inspiration! <3

I read recently that children who know what they want to do with their life become our most successful adults. Rebecca, you prove this to be so true. Since I met you, 95 weeks ago, I counted, I have been continuously inspired.
My journey to wellness has been successful on all levels because you care and you let it show. You are an exquisite role model of healthy, balanced self care. I love the thought of exquisite self care. At first it made no sense to me. Ball gowns are exquisite, views from a sandy beach are exquisite, one can have exquisite taste. But exquisite self care? Self care, was to me, what we have to do. Go to the dentist, get a mammogram, get enough sleep, eat nutritious food. Exquisite self care is fun! Taking care of oneself, filling your own well, figuring out what feeds our souls and making sure we get a daily dose is still, after all these weeks of gentle reminders, such a novelty for me. Such a novelty I sometimes forget! And then you remind me again, be kind to yourself, honor yourself. My life changed the day I met you. I felt it and you knew it. Thank you! I love the new web site and blog and changing quotes, a great idea!

You are one of the most inspiring women I know, I am honored to be learning from you. Taking care of yourself is so important…I try to pay attention to this during my hectic senior year of college!

Balance is always tough, especially when we take on so much. But I often tell people that as dietitians we still like to enjoy life! It IS all about balance, from the family to the activity to the professional activities. We want to acheive it all and we will. Great post Rebecca.

I am so glad to see this is finally up and running! It looks great! I always enjoy reading others’ stories of their interests in nutrition. I agree about the importance of balance!
