Starting March 1 right?

Admin February 28, 2010

Yes, the exercise challenge starts Monday March 1st! You going to join Diane?

Renata Schloss February 28, 2010

I would love to take on this challenge!

Leslie Anderson February 28, 2010

I’m going to try this!

Paull Evans February 28, 2010

Looking forward to the challenge. Does it matter what 5 days we choose to exercise or does it need to be Monday thru Friday?

Margaret Arnold February 28, 2010

I’m going to do this. Starting March 1.

Margaret Arnold February 28, 2010

I’m going to take the challenge.

Patty Huber February 28, 2010

I’m going to try … no, I’m going to do this; although, I may have to work-up to the 30 minutes. I might start at 10 or 15.

Paull Evans February 28, 2010

Ok my problem with working out is I feel the need for extra eating. I’m on The TSFL/ Medifast program what can i eat extra when my body is still hungry?

Since I’m getting back into the exercise rotunine how do I treat my sore body from exercisiing and my body is not use to it?

Paull Evans February 28, 2010

Yesterday I did a strength training class that was two hours but more like 45 minutes because the instructor talked about proper procedure between each excise and would not let us work out if we did not have a bottle of water near by.

Traci February 28, 2010

I am in. I would like to see if I could commit to 5x per week, which is an increase of 2X more per week then I do today. I just got the WII fit so I really want to break it in.

Theresa February 28, 2010

Count me in! I’m game!

Linda Lyles February 28, 2010

I am taking the challenge and I am starting today!

Jackie Mason February 28, 2010

Day 1: Went to the gym with my mom and fiance today – not terribly creative, but I love watching the food network while I work up a sweat :) 20 minutes on a climbing sort of machine, and then 20 minutes on the eliptical.

Kathe Kramer March 1, 2010

I must mention the above commenter woke me up this morning singing and dancing “Good morning, good morning” from “Singin’ in the Rain”. I think she deserves bonus points for creativity and enthusiasm. From 10am to 2pm we wandered the Philadelphia Flower Show and it seemed like a lot of exercise to me. From there we went to the gym where I did 30 minutes on the recumbent bike, bounced on the ball while lifting 5lb weights, and then Melissa and I went to a squash court where she helped me practice my punch-punch-kick moves. We practiced a few things from Melissa’s pilates classes and I noticed she has a kick worthy of the Rockettes. We had a fun day!

Paull Evans March 1, 2010

Ok today I did 30 minutes of Yobics a combination of Yoga and areobics.

Shelley March 2, 2010

Thanks to everyone for signing up for the exercise challenge! I think it’s important to keep food and exercise separate. Focus on your food plan. An option to manage potential increased hunger is to either eat and then exercise within an hour, or exercise then eat an hour later. An extra Medifast meal is an option, also water and optional snacks (celery, pickle, sugar jello) are other options. Stretching and adequate water also help with recovery and preventing sore muscles. Great job everyone and thanks for sharing!!

Kathy Kendall March 2, 2010

Just to clarify, the only thing you need to do to sign up is start blogging! Let us know what you do either each day or once during each week of March. It doesn’t matter which days you do it or how many times you do it or how many minutes. A goal has been set of 5 x per week 30min each time. But any amount of exercise done and blogged will be considered prize worthy!

Prizes will be awarded from among all who participate! It is about making progress and encouraging each other.

More to follow on prize categories.

Note: It would be helpful to know where folks are starting from.

For ex. I was totally out of the habit of exercise before the challenge.
or
I was only exercising once or twice a week.
or
I was only exercising for 5 or 10 minutes or so each time.

Great to see everyone blogging!

Admin March 2, 2010

Thanks for everyone’s comments so far. I know that although I had an extremely busy Monday, this exercise challenge encouraged me to go to the gym and work out on the elliptical machine. Not too exciting, but I certainly felt good about getting some exercise first thing on Monday morning, felt good to keep my priorities straight and making time to push myself physically. It felt good to be back at the gym and I was glad to see that Cameron put up a huge TIME FOR NUTRITION bulletin board at the gym. Seems like we can all use both good nutrition and exercise reminders. Plan to hit the gym tomorrow morning also. The challenge is helping me stay focused.

kathe kramer March 2, 2010

Another great day in Philadelphia with my daughter. We went to her gym in the city after spending most of day antiquing in N.J., die hards that we are! At the gym I rode a bike for half an hour and then bench pressed weights. And then I drove myself home to Annapolis, quite a busy day.

kathe kramer March 2, 2010

ps, from day 1. Melissa’s gym is in the Bellevue Hotel. After she, her fiance and I worked out and got cleaned up we felt so revived and so much lighter in body and spirit we took the elevator directly to the 19th floor for a cocktail at sunset time.

Alyson Theobald March 2, 2010

I’m really excited to be a part of the exercise challenge. On Monday, I jogged for 50 minutes. Today, I jogged for 50 minutes and added 20 minutes of strength training.

Looking forward to the weeks ahead…

Kathy Kendall March 2, 2010

OK. Nothing yesterday, but today got in 30 minutes on the exercise bike. My 10 yo daughter sat with my 2 yr old watching “Arthur” on PBS while I escaped to the bike with no interruption!

Not sure if this same arrangement will work tomorrow. Will try and get to Target and scope out their DVDs for one that kids and I could do together.

I have been out of the routine of exercise for a long while and am excited to be committed with so many others along with me! Thanks everybody!

kathe kramer March 3, 2010

March 3. I forgot I had given myself the personal challenge of adding one minute to the exercise bike every time I ride this month. So I played catch up today and did 33 minutes on the bike at the gym. I really wanted to take a nature walk as well, but the cold and the damp drizzle left me uninspired to be outside. Hopefully tomorrow! I hope everyone is enjoying the same feeling of community I am, I have enjoyed all the comments!

Florence Perry March 3, 2010

March 3. I have been excercising 3-4 times a week since I started with RBA. I try to do a variety of excercises so I don’t get bored. I mostly like to walk outside when the weather is warm. Otherwise I go to the gym and workout on the treadmill and the weight machines. I also do water aerobics. Since I have been indoors most of the winter, I purchased some of the walking excercising videos and have found them to be very helpful. Today I excercised to one of the videos (Walk Away The Pounds) for 30 minutes before breakfast and I did an additional 30 minutes before dinner. I feel great. I think this is a good idea to keep track of our excercise on a daily basis.

Admin March 3, 2010

Kathe, you actually inspired me to get out in the cold, rainy weather this morning to go for a “nature” walk. I actually had much more fun than walking on the treadmill and it was easier to fit it in this morning than rushing to the gym.

Paull Evans March 4, 2010

Ok I worked out Monday missed Tuesday and Worked out again on Wednesday for 30 minutes doing my yobics. A combinatination of yoga and aerobics. I will have to check back in later today to say I’m up to 3 days.

Bobbi Boteler, RD, LD March 4, 2010

Wednesday I missed exercise, today (Thursday) i did 60 min at the gym core and weights. My goal for the rest of the week is to at least get tomorrow (Friday) and saturday in and rest sunday.

My knee pain is keeping me from doing cardio, but the point is to find a way to move every day. Work around your limitations. There is always going to be an obstacle making it harder for us to reach our goals. We just have to work harder

Melissa Kramer March 4, 2010

March 2: 10 minutes walking briskly at a 30 degree incline on the amazing incline treadmill at the gym, then directly to another climber/eliptical type machine for 20 more minutes, then on to the regular eliptical for the final 10!

March 3: 20 minutes on the “cross country” course on yet another climber/eliptical thing, then 10 minutes on a different one (I need to learn the names of these machines!), then a final 10 minutes on the regular eliptical.

Both days 40 minutes of cardio exercise (which is my personal goal for the month) and going strong.

kathe kramer March 4, 2010

March 4. My day was planned around exercising. I can’t pull this off often, but when the time and the energy collide, it happens. The gym is between Rebecca’s office and my house, so it’s always a natural to go to the gym on my way home from an appointment with her. I increased my bike riding another whole minute, making it 34. It was too pretty a day to hang around the gym doing other things so I came home, had lunch and took a great 40 minute walk around my neighborhood. We have some good hills, lovely views and a neighbor with a yard full of purple crocus in full bloom! That would put pep in anyone’s step! And then, I had to do some errands at the mall. It was so empty I decided to make the loop from one end to the other and back, adding another 20 minutes to my walking today. Everyone might not consider Whole Foods at 5PM an aerobic activity, but I do. I had a great day on the go and hope everyone had a chance to get outside in the sun.

Kathy Kendall March 4, 2010

March 3rd: Did 25 minutes on exer. bike and 15 minutes pushing my son in his little red car while jogging!

Florence Perry March 4, 2010

March 4 – This morning I went to the gym and walked on the indoor track for 1 hour. I usually do 45 mins. but this morning there were a lot of people there so it inspired me to go longer. I felt good afterwards.

Paull Evans March 5, 2010

Ok yesterday I got in a 30 minute workout in while watching the Cash Cab on discovery channel. So I’m to 3 days and now I’m doing another 30 minutes before work putting back on track to my 4 days than I will have saturday to complete working out 5 days in this first week of March. Just not sure how to celbrate it with out food. ANY celebration ideas other than food?

Leslie Anderson March 5, 2010

Walked around Columbia Mall with my daughter last night. I have done at least 10 minutes of exercise each day this week.

kathe kramer March 5, 2010

March 5. 35 minutes on the bike at the gym this morning followed by 35 more minutes with a trainer, she kept me moving! Late this afternoon I did a neighborhood walk for 40 minutes for pleasure. No wind, not cold and many signs of spring. Two things I have noticed (and hope they are here to stay) since this challenge began: moving more makes me WANT to move more and I have been sleeping like a stone!

Melissa Kramer March 6, 2010

I am currently on the train to NYC with a very busy weekend ahead and no real guarantee of 30 minutes of exercise (though I’d love to have a walk in central park!), so I made sure to get all 5 days in this week. On Thursday I decided that now that the weather is starting to perk up, I’d get back to running. I did a run/walk combo for 30 minutes on the indoor track at the gym (ran an 11 minute mile, not bad for me!). Yesterday I had my weekly 60 minute riding lesson, which was wonderful and HARD word because the weather has kept me from riding for a whole month now! After brushing out his long light brown tail, I hopped on Zucchini the horse and we walked, trotted and cantered through a series of serpentine and diagonal courses. A great workout!

Kathe Kramer March 6, 2010

Hmph! It is pretty hard to keep up with walking in Central Park and horseback riding in the Pennsylvania countryside, but I’ll try!! Here goes, I have decided to take a break from the gym on this beautiful day. I took a yoga class this morning. It is gentle yoga for breast cancer survivors, not much of a workout, but great stretches and restorative poses. To soak up some Vitamin D and release energy I can actually feel in my body (this is new for me) I donned my wellies and headed for the banks of the Severn River. Thanks to the boots I was able to climb remaining snow banks, hug the shoreline under and over about 7 docks and climb back out and home along the old railroad tracks that go through our neighborhood. Definitely an off-roading adventure with rough terrain, hungry ducks and budding forsythia.

Kathe Kramer March 6, 2010

PS, yoga class was 1 hour, walk was 35 minutes. I forgot to mention while feeding the ducks 1 lonesome gull quickly became 30 voracious gulls.
